JOHOR BARU: Two men have been arrested for possessing firecrackers and fireworks worth RM40,000 in Pasir Gudang here.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the duo was arrested after police received a tip-off that firecrackers were being sold online.
“The men, aged 30 and 33, were arrested during raids at Masai and Pasir Gudang at 10.50pm on Wednesday (April 20) and 12.05am on Thursday (April 21) respectively.
“We also confiscated 22 boxes of fireworks, 25 pieces of firecrackers, and 10 bags of ball firecrackers, worth RM40,000 altogether,” he said in a statement.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957, which carries imprisonment for seven years, a fine of RM10,000 or both upon conviction.
Supt Mohd Sohaimi also said the suspects had been involved in the business since this month and are currently on remand for four days until April 24 to help with the investigation.
