IPOH: The public is reminded not to harbour any of the Rohingya detainees who escaped from the immigration detention depot in Kedah, says Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid.

       The Perak police chief said if anyone comes across these escapees, they should immediately call the police.

       “There is no need to sympathise, and protect them in your houses.

       “Please call the police, and we will arrest them, and do the necessary,” he told a press conference after a dialogue session between the police and banking institutions at the police air unit training base here on Thursday (April 21).

       Comm Mior Faridalathrash added that those who are found harbouring such illegals would have to face the consequences.

       “So far none of those who escaped from the depot have been found here.

       “They are probably still in Penang, or have headed to other northern states.

       “However, police roadblocks are still in operation to trace any of them,” he added.

       On Wednesday (April 19), some 528 Rohingya refugees broke out from the Sri Impian Immigration depot in Relau in Bandar Baharu, Kedah.

       Kedah police chief Comm Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said a total of 130 migrants are still on the run.

       Penang police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said those who escaped could be very hungry, and they might be knocking on doors for food, while some are even fasting for Ramadan.
