KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has rubbished claims that police would no longer issue compound notices to individuals for not wearing face masks in public areas.

Bukit Aman Corporate Communications chief Asst Comm A. Skandaguru said they detected a message claiming that police would no longer issue summonses for face mask offences.

"The standard operating procedure (SOP) for the transition to the Covid-19 endemic phase dated April 1 is still in effect.

"Wearing face masks is still compulsory in public places," he said in a statement on Thursday (April 21).

He said they would still be issuing compound notices to anyone who flouted the SOP under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

"We advise the public to comply with the SOP in order to curb the spread of Covid-19," he said.
