FOURTEEN men have been arrested in Tamil Nadu for their suspected involvement in the kidnapping, rape, and murder of a mentally challenged woman, Makkal Osai reported.
The 28-year-old woman had apparently gone to a temple festival but failed to return home.
Her family, who had been worried about her disappearance, was eventually told that the woman’s body was found in a bush by passers-by.
They refused to send the remains for burial until an autopsy was conducted.
The autopsy revealed that the victim had been gang raped.
Family members and relatives held a demonstration, demanding a full investigation.
Later, they accepted the remains following assurances by police that a special task force was being formed to investigate the killing.
This led to 14 men being detained in relation to the brutal attack and killing.
