IPOH: A senior citizen has been arrested after a raid in Taiping with more than RM115,000 worth of drugs in her possession.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the 73-year-old woman was arrested in a raid at 7pm on Wednesday (April 20) on a house in Taman Aulong Maju there.
He said checks found one plastic package believed to contain methamphetamine weighing 1kg and 30 plastic packages believed to contain heroin weighing a total of 450g.
“The police also confiscated drug packing equipment from the house.
“A urine test on the suspect came back negative, and she does not have a criminal record.
“She was alone at home when the raid was conducted, and we are investigating to get more information from her,” he told a press conference at Perak police contingent headquarters here on Friday (April 22).
Comm Mior Faridalathrash added that the woman has been remanded until Monday (April 25).
He said the seized drugs could be distributed to 10,300 addicts.
In another case, Comm Mior Faridalathrash said a 32-year-old man was arrested at the Bandar Seri Botani area here with drugs worth over RM111,000.
He said the man was arrested at about 11.45pm on Wednesday, and police found seven plastic packages believed to contain heroin weighing 3.18kg.
“The suspect's urine test came back positive for methamphetamine, and he also has four drug-related offences on his record.
“The drugs seized from him could be distributed to 7,000 addicts,” he said, adding that the suspect has been remanded until Tuesday (April 26).
Both cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and if found guilty they could face the mandatory death sentence.
In an unrelated case, a total of 417 people were arrested during a three-day operation against drug addicts under Ops Tapis.
Comm Mior Faridalathrash said the operation was conducted from Monday (April 18) to Wednesday throughout the state, with a focus on fishing jetties and drug haunts.
He said those arrested were aged between 16 and 73.
“Out of the 417, 13 are wanted persons, 12 are being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.
“We also arrested 19 people under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act,” he said, adding that the rest were detained for various other drug offences.
He added the drugs confiscated from all the suspects are worth more than RM293,000.
The confiscated drugs include heroin (4.05kg), syabu (1.36kg), ganja (261.9g), ketum leaves (150kg) and ketum in the form of liquid (44.03 litres), he said.
