PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating claims that excessive force had been used during the arrest of a suspect.
In a statement, Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Baharudin Mat Taid said that a video of the incident had been circulated on social media.
"The police confirm that the two policemen seen in the video were from the Selangor CID Department and were in the midst of arresting a local man. Following the incident, the police had received reports from both the involved policemen and the arrested person.
"Both sides claimed that they suffered slight injuries during the arrest. The police have opened an investigation under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt," he said on Saturday (April 23).
The video shows two plainclothes policemen struggling with the suspect while attempting to arrest him.
A struggle ensued when the suspect refused to enter the police car.
He is later seen showing bruises that he sustained from the arrest.
