A DISABLED couple in Johor Baru who are struggling to get by with a meagre income from menial jobs received a People’s Housing Project (PPR) unit in Taman Perling, Makkal Osai reported.
The husband, identified as J. Logeswaran, 38, lost both his legs at a young age and has been supporting himself conducting tuition classes and weaving work.
He and his wife Anjalai Devi have been living in a rundown rented house in Kulai.
The daily said the couple got the PPR unit with help of Kulai MIC branch chairman S. Suppiah and Kahang assemblyman R. Vidyananthan.
The branch also helped pay for the RM1,500 deposit for the housing and has appealed to the state government to waive the monthly rental of RM250 for the couple.
Anjalai Devi said they were grateful for the help and she was hoping to set up a small food stall to support her husband’s income.
> A 12-year-old boy in Tamil Nadu, India, has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for allegedly impregnating a 17-year-old neighbour, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The girl has apparently been unwell and deflected questions from her parents.
The pregnancy was discovered after she developed stomach pains and was admitted to a hospital in Thanjavur where she gave birth to a baby girl.
After extensive counselling, the teenager admitted that she had been in an “intimate relationship” with the boy next door.
She said he was 15 but the boy’s parents claimed he was only 12.
The court has ordered the authorities to conduct a medical test to determine his real age and whether he is the father.
