KUALA PILAH: A pair of lovers has been sentenced to six months in jail by a Magistrate's Court here for stealing a gold bangle from a jewellery store.
Magistrate Saiful Sayoti meted out the penalty after Muhammad Efendi Sanusi Gunarto, 24, and Nur Sabrina Khairul, 22, confessed to the crime.
They were jointly charged with stealing the 36.76g gold bangle from Kedai Emas Pilah here at around 3.45pm on April 8.
They were charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same legislation which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine upon conviction.
Nik Nur Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi prosecuted while the duo was unrepresented.
Police launched a manhunt for the couple after the woman ran off with the bangle worth some RM10,000 from the shop.
She escaped with the male suspect on a motorcycle that did not have registration plates.
Police arrested the suspects in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur at around 11pm on April 14.
