KUALA LUMPUR: Some 287kg of syabu worth RM10.3mil were seized in raids in Selangor and Johor.
The syndicate was masterminded by a 25-year-old swimming instructor based in Puchong, who was arrested along with three other men.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the raids were conducted in Puchong and Johor Baru on Friday (April 22) and Saturday (April 23).
“We believe the syndicate received the drug supply from a neighbouring country via sea routes before shipping it to Indonesia.
“Some of the drugs are also meant for the local market,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman on Monday (April 25).
The syndicate is believed to have been operating since January, he said.
“Assets belonging to the syndicate worth RM133,000 were also seized during the operation.
“Those detained have been remanded for further investigation,” he added.
Comm Ayob said Indonesia was the syndicate’s destination of choice as syabu is worth more there.
“One kilogramme of syabu in Malaysia is priced about RM37,000 but in Indonesia, it is RM100,000.
“We are working hard to detain the other syndicate members,” he said.
Comm Ayob said the drugs seized could have been supplied to about 1.4 million addicts.
“We will step up operations to effectively combat the drug menace.
“We hope the public continue to give their cooperation by contacting the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222,” he said.
