KUALA LUMPUR: Any action on the police officer, who made a live TikTok video during a raid on an entertainment outlet, will depend on a full report by the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS), says Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
The Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director said the female Asst Supt (ASP), was attached to the department and based at the federal police headquarters.
"Directives regarding personal use of social media have been issued in May 2014, August 2020 and February 2021.
"Appropriate action will be taken but will be based on the report by JIPS," he told a press conference at Bukit Aman on Monday (April 25).
Comm Ayob said he would not compromise in taking action against any officer or personnel who were involved in wrongdoing.
"We will not protect those who have committed offences.
"Even when I was in Johor, I took action against those with the rank of Supt," he said.
Earlier, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Razarudin Husain said that JIPS has been instructed to investigate a viral video of a policewoman making live TikTok video during a raid on an entertainment outlet.
He said the investigation was focusing on when and where the video was recorded.
"I have instructed JIPS to take necessary action against the office involved, including taking her statement on making a live recording during the operation.
"We want also want to know the motive and objective of making the recording via her TikTok account," he said when contacted on Monday (April 25).
Razarudin said an instruction regarding the use of social media among police officers and personnel, especially involving TikTok, would be issued by JIPS.
"JIPS will not compromise in taking action in this matter if the officer involved did the live recording merely to gain followers on TikTok," he said.
In the 38-second video, the female police officer was seen explaining the scopes of her work, including conducting raids and inspections.
In the middle of the video, the police officer expressed her shock that the video was seen live by more than 1,400 followers and she was hoping that her TikTok account would be followed by more than 100,000 followers.
Her action has earned the ire of netizens, who criticised her for taking advantage of an operation to promote her TikTok account.
In August 2020, the police had issued a directive prohibiting its officers and personnel from sharing on social media while in uniform.
The directive stated that Bukit Aman viewed seriously the matter of its officers and personnel recording and uploading dancing and other acts while in uniform via social media.
The directive also aimed to prevent any negative perception or criticism that could tarnish the police force's image.
