A MAN has been taking shelter at a bus stop in Taman Nirwana, Melaka for the past four months, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Zamri Mustafa, 30, who is unemployed, relies on the kindness of people who shop at the nearby supermarket and donations from the residents.
“It’s difficult to get a job and I can’t afford to rent a house.
“People think that I’m a drug addict but I’m not, just that I’m very poor,” said Zamri, who used to work as a garbage collector for a short while.
He said it is difficult to find a job as people refuse to accept him due to his slovenly appearance and homeless situation.
“I’m willing to do any type of work to earn an income legitimately, even if the salary is minimal,” he added.
> The daily also reported that a man who claims to be 111 years old has no problem fasting during Ramadan, reported Utusan Malaysia.Mat Ariffin Mat Deris, who lives in Tanjung Buluh, Kerambit in Lipis, Pahang, said he was a home guard and special constable who fought the communists in Pasir Mas, Kelantan between 1948 and 1959.
Despite being a little weak since the beginning of this year, he said he can still fast and enjoy food with his beloved family during buka puasa.
“I have had good health since I was young and even though I’ve reached the age of more than a century, I can perform acts of worship such as fasting for a month.
“Although I often feel tired and have hearing problems nowadays, these don’t stop me from fasting and I can still perform ablutions and prayers at home,” said Mat Ariffin, who came from Kampung Kuin Merah in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan.
He added that he would continue to fulfil his responsibilities as a Muslim as long as his health allows him to do so.
> Veteran actress Aripah Damanhuri, 73, who was admitted to Hospital Kuala Lumpur last Friday, has been transferred to a normal ward as of Sunday, Harian Metro reported.
However, Aripah, who suffered from a bacterial infection in her blood which also attacked her kidneys, still relies on a breathing aid and medicine.
Her son Nurpais Ismail said the doctor informed him that his mother’s condition is very critical.
According to Nurpais, who is also known as Boy, he and his three siblings are mentally prepared and ready to let Aripah go.
“Although losing is something that is hard to accept, we need to be calm and strong to face any possibility that might happen,” he added.
Aripah is also the sister to another actress, Normah Damanhuri.
