PETALING JAYA: Civil servants should observe high ethics and integrity in discharging their duties, says MCA spokesman Mike Chong Yew Chuan.
He said the incident where a police officer went live on her private social media account during a raid affected the image of the force.
“Such attention-seeking behaviour not only sullies the reputation of the police, it also creates an impression that civil servants are irresponsible in general.
“As such, we appreciate Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department for swiftly issuing a notice regarding social media usage among police officers and investigating the said policewoman,” he said.
Chong said with rapid advancements in technology, it was inevitable that such blunders would occur.
“Hence, we should all learn from these experiences to restore the public’s confidence towards civil servants while building a stronger community together,” he said in a statement yesterday.
It was reported that a female police officer with the rank of Asst Supt recently uploaded a video in which she explained the scope of her work, which includes conducting raids and inspections.
In the midst of filming the video, the officer expressed surprise that her live feed was being viewed by more than 1,400 followers and said she hoped that her account would have more than 100,000 followers.
Her actions drew the ire of social media users who criticised her for taking advantage of an operation.
