GEORGE TOWN: One of the two injured Rohingya who escaped from the temporary detention centre in Bandar Baharu died after she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday (April 26).
State police chief Commissioner Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the 14-year-old victim died while being treated at a hospital in Seberang Prai.
"One of the victims died on Tuesday morning," he said.
With the death, a total of seven detainees have died due to the riot incident.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily said police are still investigating the accident that has caused six deaths among the detainees in all aspects.
Updating on the remaining detainees that are still at large, Comm Mohd Shuhaily said 61 detainees were still on the run, and efforts to track the escapees are still on-going.
On Wednesday (April 20), a protest at around 5am at the Relau detention centre by Rohingya detainees quickly turned into a riot, where 528 detainees escaped the depot.
During the escape, six detainees, including two children, were killed on the southbound side of the North-South Expressway while trying to cross the highway near Jawi.
