       1. Sunak threatens oil and gas giants with windfall tax on profits

       Rishi Sunak on Wednesday night threatened energy companies with a windfall tax on their profits unless they "support the economy" by increasing investment in UK energy supply.

       The Chancellor said that, unless big firms do more to protect energy security, levying a windfall tax was "something I'd look at". Read the full story.

       2. Passport Office boss under pressure to return to HQ full-time

       The head of the beleaguered Passport Office was under pressure on Wednesday night to return to work full-time at its headquarters, as it emerged there are 700,000 outstanding applications to clear.

       3. Hancock blames health body over Covid care home failings

       Matt Hancock blamed Public Health England (PHE) for discharging untested hospital patients to care homes, after the High Court ruled the policy was unlawful.

       The former health secretary said PHE failed to alert him to asymptomatic transmission of the Covid virus, after the judges' ruling on the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) policy in the early stages of the pandemic. Read the full story.

       4. ‘Victory’ for Ukraine means denying Russia any territorial gains

       Western governments want to deny Russia any territorial gains from its invasion of Ukraine, officials have said in the clearest indication yet of the scale of the defeat they want to impose on Moscow.

       Western officials said the current war must end with Russian forces withdrawing “at a minimum” to the positions they held at the start of the invasion in February. Read the full story.

       5. Tories claim Rayner joined in with joke about flashing her legs

       Angela Rayner joked to other MPs about the idea that she could put off the Prime Minister by flashing her legs, according to two people who witnessed the conversation in Parliament.
