BUKIT KAYU HITAM: Police are assembling photofits and acquiring the profiles of the remaining 61 Rohingya inmates who escaped from the Relau temporary immigration detention depot in Bandar Baharu.
Kedah police chief Comm Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said the photofits and profiles would be released to the public once it was ready.
"We have established all the escapees' pictures and their profile and an instruction has also been given to update all the list of the detainees who are still at large," he said during a press conference after visiting Bukit Kayu Hitam tactical base (Martak) here on Friday (April 29).
Comm Wan Hassan said with the photofits and profiles, the escapees could be identified if they were arrested in other states.
He said the photofits would be released as soon as possible.
Earlier Comm Wan Hassan visited Bukit Kayu Hitam Martak in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
During the visit, he handed over biscuits and cookies for the General Operations Force (GOF) personnel who would be on duty at the tactical base during the festive period.
On the operation at the country border, he said the patrols would continue as usual during the festive period.
"Patrol and border monitoring will not stop, it will continue as usual," he said.
Comm Wan Hasan said efforts to track the escaped detainees were still ongoing.
On Wednesday (April 20), a protest at around 5am at the Relau detention centre by Rohingya detainees quickly turned into a riot, where 528 detainees escaped the depot.
During the escape, six detainees, including two children, were killed on the southbound side of the North-South Expressway while trying to cross the highway near Jawi.
Another victim, a 14-year-old girl died after she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday (April 26).
With the death, a total of seven detainees have died due to the riot incident.
