KOTA KINABALU: A man has been arrested after he threatened to attack and kill a policeman with an iron pipe in Kota Belud district, about 80km from here.
The man was apparently upset after he was issued a traffic summons for having expired road tax with no insurance cover during the incident at 10.55am on Saturday (April 30).
Kota Belud OCPD Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said on Sunday (May 1) that the suspect took photographs of the traffic policeman, who reprimanded him for doing so.
The suspect became angry and threatened to harm the policeman, he said.
"Other policemen at the scene tried to calm him down but instead he opened the trunk of the car, took out an iron pipe and tried to attack the policeman," he said in a statement.
Supt Shahrudin said police arrested the suspect after a minor scuffle, during which the man kicked the leg of one traffic policeman.
He said the suspect had been remanded and investigations were being conducted for criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code as well as causing hurt under Section 323.
