KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 14 new infections on Sunday (May 1), among the lowest figures since the Covid-19 virus was detected in the state back in March 2020.
"This is a drop of 34 cases compared to 48 the day before, with only five out of 27 districts in Sabah reporting new cases.
"The districts are Kota Kinabalu (six cases), Sandakan (four), Papar (two) and Beluran and Kunak (one each).
"No new infections were detected at the other 22 districts," said state Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
He also took the occasion, Sunday being Labour Day, to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of frontliners who worked hard to fight the coronavirus and bring the numbers down to the present level.
"The high compliance to standard operating procedures among the people is also an important factor in our success in curbing further spread of the virus.
"But the fight is not over. The responsibility now lies with members of the public, through our lifestyle and discipline, in ensuring the safety of our family members and ourselves," he noted.
Masidi said with the launch of Kaamatan month on Sunday as well as the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations, he hoped both festivities will not impact the state’s momentum in overcoming the virus.
"It is up to us, how we act during these festivals," he added.
