Annuar: Only two telcos have inked 5G deal with DNB so far

KUALA LUMPUR: Only two telcos, namely Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) and YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, have signed a service agreement with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) for the implementation of the country’s 5G network so far.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa (pic) said it is hoped that other telcos will expedite their respective agreements with DNB to speed up implementation of the government-owned 5G network nationwide.

"DNB only provides infrastructure, (so) services must be provided by the telcos, but several telcos are still negotiating and have yet to sign... except TM and YTL.

"So, I was told that after Aidilfitri they (TM and YTL) will launch 5G services in three areas under Phase 1A, namely Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya,” he told reporters after a Rumah Prihatin event here recently.

Annuar also reminded telcos that the last day for them to sign the agreement and get an equity stake in DNB for the implementation of the 5G network is June 30.

"This means if on June 30 any telco has yet to take up its equity stake, then it will be left out and we will move on because the focus now is on ensuring that the actual launch takes place,” he said. – Bernama
