LUMUT: A 51-year-old man died after he was allegedly seriously injured by his nephew with a grasscutter after a misunderstanding at a house in Sitiawan here.

       The victim was reported to be unconscious when taken to hospital before being pronounced dead.

       Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Nor Omar Sappi said the police received a report of the incident at 4am on Tuesday (May 3).

       According to Sinar Harian, he said that the victim, who was in a drunken state, was allegedly fighting with a 34-year-old male suspect in front of the house due to a misunderstanding.

       "As a result of the fight, the suspect allegedly took a grasscutter and swung it towards the victim's leg until the man suffered serious injuries to his left leg.

       "The unconscious victim was taken to hospital for treatment and was pronounced dead by doctors," he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 3).

       He said the suspect has been detained for further investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

       He said the initial investigation found that the cause of the incident was due to the suspect being unhappy with the victim who allegedly tarnished his name to their neighbours.

       “Based on the investigations, the suspect is a motorcycle mechanic who has three priors on his record including criminal and drug offences.

       "The victim who was unemployed, also had nine priors on his record, also involving crime and drug offences," he said.
