KUALA LUMPUR: A locally-made four-wheel-drive high mobility armoured vehicle (HMAV 4x4) has been named "Rentaka" by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
The Rentaka - built by Mildef International Technologies Sdn Bhd (Mildef) - is the country's second 4x4 HMAV after the Tarantula, which was launched last year
Mildef’s procurement chief Mohd Ruhaizat Mohd Din said the Rentaka has the potential to be an important asset to national enforcement agencies due to its capabilities and suitable size.
He said the vehicle weighs almost 9,000kg with a full load and is produced entirely using local expertise.
"There are, however, several external technologies used including foreign surveillance systems that are important to protect personnel and individuals in the vehicle," he told Bernama when met at the 2022 Defence Services Asia (DSA) and National Security Asia (NATSEC Asia) exhibitions here recently.
According to Mohd Ruhaizat, the Rentaka is smaller in size than the Tarantula, but in terms of capacity, it can accommodate up to 10 passengers, adding that the vehicle has also been proposed to the Home Ministry.
Mohd Ruhaizat said the 6.7-litre V8 Turbo Diesel vehicle had also caught the attention of several representatives from external security agencies at the exhibition, who made further inquiries about the product. - Bernama
