IPOH: The Perak government will increase the safety of the children's electric toy car ride operation at the Amusement Park, Kinta Riverwalk, following an incident involving a nine-year-old boy falling into the river on Sunday.
State Housing, Local Government and Tourism committee chairman, Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi, said a discussion would be held with the Ipoh City Council (MBI) to tighten safety regulations in the area.
"We have taken note that the incident happened when the boy lost control while riding the electric toy car. We will discuss with MBI the safety risks and actions to be taken, including installing fences.
"The boy was accompanied by his father. We have informed the operator to be cautious and inform the customers about the safety of the children playing in the area,” she told Bernama when met at the Perak state government’s Clients Day at Stadium Indera Mulia here on Tuesday (May 10).
Nolee Ashilin said a preliminary investigation found the incident occurred in the lower lane, which was not allowed for vehicles for safety reasons.
The boy, who sustained minor injuries, was given treatment in the ambulance at the scene.
MBI has ordered a temporary closure of the children’s electric toy car ride operation, effective Monday (May 9), for further investigation.
A 29-second video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the toy car falling into the river, and the child being rescued by the parent and the public before being swept away by the river current.- Bernama
