IPOH: The state government is looking into the difficulties faced by parents in getting birth certificates for their adopted children, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
The Mentri Besar said the government has received numerous complaints from parents who had adopted their children in hospitals.
“These parents adopted their children legally at hospitals where they have received all the documents involving the children.
"However, when they want to register for the children's birth certificate and nationality, it seems that they have not met the required documents,” he said.
Saarani said this at a press conference for the Perak government’s Meet the Customer Day programme at Stadium Indera Mulia here on Tuesday (May 10).
He said that based on the number of complaints they received, there was an urgency to refer back to policies related to the matter.
“By failing to register their nationality, these children will be stateless forever.
“We also received complaints on getting passports. Therefore we will take a look at this issue and try to see if there is something we can do as a state government,” he said.
Earlier, Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud said there has been a deluge of applications for passports since the announcement of the border reopening.
Separately, Saarani said the state received a total of 177 complaints on various matters during the Meet the Customer programme.
“This would be the third time we have conducted such a programme and I believe that this is the lowest turnout among the three.
“Perhaps people are still celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri or that we have solved the majority of their problems,” he said.
