GOMBAK: A 28-year-old motorcyclist who was seen in a viral video performing a dangerous stunt was detained and charged with the offence.

       Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said the police detected the 30-second video on Sunday (May 8) showing a motorcycle rider clad in a striped black shirt and pants, performing the "wheelie" (lifting the front part of the motorcycle) at Jalan Sungai Tua-Ulu Yam.

       "We managed to track him down and detain him at about 7.30pm on Sunday.

       "We also seized the motorcycle," he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 10).

       The suspect was remanded until Tuesday, he added.

       "The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

       "The suspect has since been charged and he pleaded not guilty," he said.

       The accused was allowed bail of RM4,000 with a surety, ACP Zainal said.

       "We urge those with information on any individual or group who committed traffic offences to contact the Gombak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement division at 03-6126 2222," he said.
