A British tourist has died falling from the seventh floor of a hotel in Magaluf, Majorca.

The man, in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been made public.

The hotel where the fall happened has been named locally as the South Beach Hotel in the east of the Spanish tourist island.

A Spanish civil guard spokesperson said the fall happened at around 8.30am (7.30am BST) local time on Thursday.

”The dead man is a 34-year-old British man. The incident is very recent and there’s not a lot we can say at the moment as the investigation is ongoing,” they said.

A spokesman for a regional emergency response coordination centre said emergency services rushed to the scene at the Melia hotel on Thursday morning.

They added: “There was nothing that could be done to save the man who was subsequently declared dead.”

The Briton was staying at the hotel where he fell from, according to a spokesperson for Calvia Council, which is responsible for Magaluf.

They said the council understood he was 33 - not 34 - years old.

The Melia South Beach hotel is based in Calvia and sits on a beach overlooking the Bay of Palma.

The international hotel chain has been approached for comment.
