IPOH: Two women from the Klang Valley are now missing after being swept away by a sudden gush of water and soil during a hiking expedition at Gunung Suku near here.
State police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said they received information that the victims, aged 32 and 46, who were part of a group of 29 hikers, had gone missing at about 5am yesterday.
“During their hike, the group heard some rumbling noise and decided to turn back.
“While on their way down, a sudden water surge hit them and swept away the two victims from Cheras and Klang,” he said in a statement.
Comm Mior Faridalathrash said a search and rescue operation was under way.
The victims have been identified as See Su Yen and Ng Yee Chew.
