PETALING JAYA: A disciplinary probe has been initiated against a policeman at the Kelana Jaya police station who allegedly victim-blamed a cosplayer in costume who was lodging a report.

The complainant, who was lodging a report that she was being harassed, was allegedly told by the policeman on duty that she was also in the wrong because of her actions and the way she was dressed.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the district Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) was investigating the allegations.

"On Tuesday (May 17), we detected a post on social media about a woman who claimed she was unhappy about the way she was treated while lodging a report.

"Investigations revealed the complainant had gone to the Kelana Jaya police station on Monday (May 16) to lodge the report but took issue with the treatment and words used by the policeman on duty at the time," he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 18).

"Stern action will be taken against any officer or personnel involved. We will give the best service and treatment to the public," he said.

The 21-year-old cosplayer had posted on social media that she went to the police station to lodge a report because a man had allegedly harassed her during an event at a shopping mall here. She said she had told the man not to approach her but he became incensed and caused a scene.

She said a friend tried to stop him from getting close to her but the man screamed and pleaded with her to take a picture with him and unblock him on a messaging platform.
