SEPANG: Drugs worth around RM1mil en route to Sabah and Sarawak were seized by police at the KLIA cargo complex.

KLIA OCPD Asst Comm Imran Abd Rahman said the drugs were seized in two incidents.

“The first occurred on May 8 where we seized three packages of suspected syabu smuggled inside electronic equipment. Investigations showed that the items were being shipped to Tawau.

“Then on May 15, we seized 25 packages, and like the previous find, they were hidden inside electronics. The packages were being sent to Kuching and Tawau,” he said at a press conference yesterday at the Airport Management Centre building here.

“The drugs were inside a microwave oven and speakers. Both seizures were the result of police intelligence gathering.

“The estimated weight of the drugs was 28kg and worth RM1,008,000.

“We have identified a few suspects, but we also need strong evidence to link them to the crime so that we can build our case,” he added.

The police did not deny the possibility of syndicates using couriers.

“Investigations showed the packages had fake addresses and details. It is possible both cases are by the same syndicate.

“My advice to courier companies is to work with us to prevent KLIA from becoming a drug distribution site.

“I urge them to contact us if they receive suspicious packages or information on workers who may be involved in the activities,” said ACP Imran.
