KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) has played a big role in improving road safety, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Speaking on the tenth anniversary of the Miros collision test laboratory (PC3 Crash Lab) in Melaka, Dr Wee said their decade of work has played a big role in road safety.

"I appreciate their collaboration, conducting research and development to improve road safety in terms of vehicle safety," said Dr Wee.

He added that he is proud to see that the Miros-built PC3 is able to play an important role in testing passenger vehicles through the Asean NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries).

Attending the 10th anniversary, Wee in his speech expressed his appreciation to all those involved over the decade in their outstanding role in vehicle safety and their collaborations with industry partners especially in the automotive field.

Dr Wee said the results of their dedication and commitment is shown in their success, as they are recognised by vehicle makers and the community at large.

"I am proud to see the PC3 they (Miros) built with their own energy and expertise without incurring high costs," he said during his speech at the Road Transport Department Academy in Melaka on Tuesday (May 24).

Dr Wee officiated the celebrations at the Academy, and was joined by Miros chairman Prof Dr Wong Shaw Voon, director-general Datuk Dr Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim and Road Transport Department director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim among others.

He was also joined by Melaka Works, Transport, Public Infrastructure and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman.
