SEREMBAN: The supply of chicken in Negri Sembilan has stabilised, says state consumerism committee chairman S. Veerapan.
He said there were only one or two areas still facing a short supply but overall, the situation was back to normal.
“We have been conducting regular checks at the wholesale and retail levels as well as markets and found that there is enough chicken supply.
“The authorities have also not received any complaints of traders hiking up prices,” he said after visiting a hypermarket here.
Asked what had caused the recent shortage of chicken, Veerapan said Hari Raya open houses could be one of the reasons.
He said checks by enforcement officers from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry showed there was no hoarding.
“We hope the public will report to us if they face a supply shortage or a sudden price hike in their areas.
“There should be no reason for this as we have many chicken farms in the state,” he said, adding that chickens were also brought in from Selangor.
