SIBU: The body of a man who was feared drowned after the car he was driving crashed into a metal railing and plunged into the river in front of a hotel early Friday (May 27) has been found.
The Fire and Rescue Department’s search and rescue team found the body of Andy Ting King Dieng, 43, at about 3pm.
Ting is a Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) councillor. He leaves behind a wife and two young children.
His family members, including his parents, a brother and a sister have been at the scene since last night to observe SAR efforts.
A white luxury car was lifted up using a hydraulic crane at about 2.45pm.
Earlier, the state Fire and Rescue Department said a hotel guest, who was about to check in, informed receptionists that he saw the car being driven at high speed and rammed into the metal railing.
The car subsequently plunged into the river. The deceased had earlier sent the man to the hotel to check in.
Sibu Central Station after receiving a distress call at 12.40am immediately despatched six fire fighters to the scene for the SAR operation.
