1. Boris Johnson declares war on rip-off petrol stations
Boris Johnson is declaring war on petrol stations that fail to pass on the Government’s fuel duty cut, pledging to name and shame those that refuse to drop their prices.
Three government sources said the Prime Minister had expressed fury that the 5p-a-litre cut to fuel duty announced in March was failing to materialise at many pumps. Read the full story.
2. Liverpool fans tear-gassed by Paris police
Liverpool have demanded a formal investigation after fans were tear-gassed by police and the Champions League final was delayed by 37 minutes with thousands of supporters unable to enter the Stade de France.
Fans were caught in bottlenecks despite arriving at the stadium with hours to spare, with the organisation around the arena described as "shambolic" as the chaotic situation left many supporters fearing for their safety. Read the full story.
3. Pounds and ounces back in time for Platinum Jubilee
Boris Johnson will pave the way for the return of pounds and ounces in British shops this week, in a "common sense" move heralded by Tory MPs as taking advantage of freedoms delivered by Brexit.
On Friday, the Government will publish proposals to repeal EU-derived law requiring metric units to be used for all trade, with only limited exceptions. Read the full story.
4. Young people forced to wait until next year to book a driving test
Young people across large parts of the country face not being able to book a driving test until next year, as the full scale of the crisis engulfing the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is laid bare for the first time.
As of Saturday night, at least five major cities, including London and Birmingham, appeared to have no slots available until early November, the limit of the Government-imposed booking window. Read the full story.
5. Queen will change Trooping the Colour tradition
The Queen is to take a salute from the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the first time in her 70 years of Trooping the Colour, in a compromise that will allow her to fulfil her Jubilee duties in comfort.
The military event, which will open the Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Thursday, will conclude with the Household Division marching to the front of the palace where the Queen will appear on the balcony. Read the full story.
