JOHOR BARU: The family members of a 77-year-old driving instructor are pleading with the public to help them search for the senior citizen, who has been missing for three days.

According to his family, Chan Kwan Yin was last seen at about 7.30am on Saturday (May 28) when he left the family home in Skudai for work.

"Normally, he would be home by 3pm. However, on that day, he still did not return by 5pm.

"We tried to call him and after a few failed attempts, we finally reached him.

"He told us that he had taken a wrong turn and accidentally entered the Second Link, heading towards Tuas, Singapore.

"He later passed the phone to an Immigration officer who explained that my father accidentally got into the Immigration checkpoint and that officers there would help him turn back to Johor," said the man's daughter, who wanted to be known only as Chan.

She noted that the family was still able to keep in touch with the senior citizen by telephone for a few hours after that.

"He told us that he had lost his way.

"He tried to explain where he was but we could not identify the area. He said he was in a remote area with gravel roads," she said.

The family then lodged a report at the Mutiara Rini police station at around midnight the same day.

"We also posted photos of him on social media so that the public could help us locate him.

"We could not get through his phone the next day. Since then, we have been looking everywhere for him with no success," she said.

She noted that someone who came across her Facebook post informed her that her father was spotted at Bandar Baru Uda on Saturday night.

"We appeal to the public, including non-governmental organisations, to help us locate my father.

"We are very worried about him, especially as he has high blood pressure and diabetes, and has been out for days without his medicine," she said.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Rahmat Ariffin confirmed that police had received a report on the case and had also called several hospitals to look for Chan.

"We will continue our search and our mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) units are also on the lookout," he added.
