ALOR SETAR: The police are still awaiting the chemical report on the death of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) student Vinosiny Sivakumar who was found dead in her hostel room on May 23.

Kubang Pasu OCPD Supt Rodzi Abu Hassan said the report would only be known between four to 12 weeks before the cause of death could be determined.

He said they were also waiting for the full report from the Energy Commission following the allegation that that death was caused by electrocution.

On Tuesday (May 31), UUM corporate communication said the university would not prevent any students from being involved in any solidarity activities towards the deceased.

The university, however, reminded students to always be prudent in their action as the case was still under investigation.

On May 27, UUM imposed a gag order on the students, banning them from speaking publicly, organising or attending events related to Vinosiny’s death and that action would be taken against them if they went against the instructions.

A video uploaded to YouTube alleged that Vinosiny, a second year accounting student, had died from an electric shock.

Police have so far classified the case as sudden death.
