PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a man for allegedly snatching a mobile phone from a motorist near PJS 3 here.

       Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid said they were alerted about the case following a report lodged by the 36-year-old victim on Tuesday (May 31).

       "The victim claimed he was driving near the PJS 3 area at around 7.10pm with his windows down when a man approached his vehicle on a motorcycle.

       "The suspect reached in and snatched the victim’s mobile phone before fleeing the scene," he said in a statement on Thursday (June 2).

       He said the victim tried to chase down the suspect but failed.

       "Based on information received, we conducted a raid at the PJCC Trade Centre area at around 10am on Wednesday (June 1) and arrested a 28-year-old suspect.

       "We checked the suspect and found a mobile phone believed to be the one that was stolen," he said, adding police also seized a motorcycle and clothes believed to have been worn during the incident.

       ACP Mohamad Fakhruddin said further checks revealed the suspect had 18 prior records for theft, robbery, snatch theft, vehicle theft and causing injury during a robbery.

       "He also had three records for drug abuse.

       "We have remanded the suspect for six days to help with further investigations," he said.
