SEREMBAN: A teenager was killed while his mother was seriously injured after the car they were travelling in crashed into another car at Jalan Seremban-Tampin, near Rembau, on Friday night.
Shazman Sabarudin, 16, a student at the Mara Junior Science College Muadzam Shah, Pahang, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene in the 9.20pm incident, said Rembau district police chief Deputy Supt Hazri Mohamad.
He said the victim’s mother, Husnirazulia Mohd Yudin, 47, suffered serious injuries and was currently receiving treatment in Hospital Tampin.
“The accident involved two vehicles. The two victims were travelling in a car driven by a 24-year-old man, while the other car was ferrying five individuals,” Bernama quoted him as saying in a statement yesterday.
DSP Hazri said initial investigations found that the road was unpaved as maintenance was being carried out along the route from Tampin to Rembau.
“In the incident, the victim’s car was heading towards Rembau from Tampin and the driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle due to the unpaved road conditions, before entering the opposite lane and crashing into the other car,” he said.
He added that the driver of the first car sustained minor injuries while the five passengers in the other vehicle suffered injuries including fractured legs.
He also said the victim’s remains were taken to the Rembau Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem and the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act.
