PETALING JAYA: Datuk Afdlin Shauki, who lost the Setiawangsa division chief post in the PKR election last month, lodged a police report against the party's election committee (JPP).

The celebrity claimed that the JPP failed to manage the voting process well and that he believed there was ongoing fraud.

He lodged a police report over the matter at about 9pm on Sunday (June 5) at the Pudu police station.

“We lodged a police report on what we saw happening during the party election and the report was made against the JPP.

“We feel there are many things they (JPP) did that raised suspicion and there are also things they did that are blatantly wrong," he was quoted as saying by Astro Awani.

Afdlin also said they had made reports to the JPP over the alleged voter fraud and other issues but no action had been taken yet.

“There were no calls, no communication, not even 'Selamat Hari Raya' greetings. All we got was silence.

"Because of that, we had to take action and make a police report to start an investigation into the matter," he said.

Afdlin also claimed that there were missing ballot papers when the number of votes announced by the JPP did not tally with the number of votes at the Setiawangsa division polling station.

He also said that the counting of ballot papers was done without a representative of the candidates present and the manner in which the counting process was done was not disclosed.

The JPP is also alleged to have appointed the former secretary of the Setiawangsa division as the coordinator of the polling station and the husband of one of the division's Wanita candidates to work in the polling station hall during election day.

Afdlin said this could be seen as biased as both of them had a direct relationship with the contesting candidates and there was no guarantee of transparency and integrity as they were also members of the party, and not neutral.

In the recent party polls, Afdlin lost the contest for the position of Setiawangsa PKR chief.

It was won by the incumbent Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who received 482 votes, while Afdlin had only 372 votes.
