SHAH ALAM: A total of 220 compound notices and seven compliance orders were issued by the Social Security Organisation (Socso) after visiting 1,258 employers nationwide during the 13th Ops Kesan on Wednesday (June 8).

Socso chief executive officer Datuk Seri Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said that the operation found that about 20 % of employers and employees were not registered with them.

"We are urging those who have still not registered to come forward soon; otherwise, compounds will be issued," he said.

Ops Kesan has resumed after a two-year pause due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"During May in the endemic phase we had the legalisation programme and saw a 15 % increase in registration at all of our premises," said Mohammed Azman.

"Most had come in voluntarily as they are finding their footing in the endemic phase, perhaps before this there were some obstacles with costing, so we had accepted them," he added at a press conference on Wednesday.

Mohammed Azman said that the government had provided many financial assistance to companies either small or medium to sustain their businesses, as such there should be no more excuses for them to register.

He also said that the Sosco contribution was not a burden but something beneficial for those during unfortunate times.

"Even if you take RM1,200 minimum wage, the contribution by the employer is 1.75% and 0.5% from the employee, so the contribution comes to some RM20, which is such a minimum amount," he added
