GEORGE TOWN: A 29-year-old man was arrested by the police for allegedly hurting a man while drunk.

       George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the man would be remanded for four days until June 17 for further investigation.

       "On June 14, at 9.37am, a 38-second video was uploaded on Twitter showing two men fighting in front of a restaurant.

       "The police found that the incident occurred on June 13 at 12.30am at Lebuh Chulia in George Town, Penang.

       "A police report was lodged by a 40-year-old foreign man at the northeast district police headquarters regarding the incident in which he claimed to have been attacked by a man of an unknown race using a bottle causing him to suffer injuries on the face," he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 14).

       ACP Soffian added that following the police report, police from the north-east district criminal investigation division arrested a 29-year-old local man in Lebuh Chulia, Georgetown, Penang on suspicion of involvement in the incident on June 13 at around 10.30pm.

       "The suspect is from Negri Sembilan and works as a technician in Penang.

       "The suspect has no previous criminal record and he was found to be negative for any type of drug.

       "The results of the investigation found that the cause of the incident was drunkenness and a verbal altercation after the suspect reprimanded the complainant rudely.

       "The suspect was remanded for four days until June 17 for further investigation," he said.

       ACP Soffian urged those who saw the incident to come forward to help with the investigation.

       "We also advise the public not to post video recordings of the incident on any social media site to avoid any speculation," he said.
