KOTA TINGGI: A 34-year-old Kota Tinggi National Anti-Drug Agency officer (AADK) died on the spot after his motorcycle collided with a lorry.
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said the victim was riding on his motorcycle during the incident at KM1.5 Jalan Perani-Lok Heng Mawai at around 8.20am on Thursday (June 16).
“The victim, who was on a motorcycle, was on his way to the workplace at the Kota Tinggi Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen) when the lorry from the opposite lane lost control and rammed into him.
“The victim sustained severe injuries to his head and died at the scene,” he said.
He added that the case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
It carries a jail term of five to 10 years and a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000, and suspension of the driver’s licence for at least five years, if convicted.
In Kluang, a 17-year-old motorcyclist suffered from severe injuries after an accident at around 9.30am on the same day.
Deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the accident occurred at KM40 Jalan Baru-Mersing when the victim, heading towards Kluang, entered the opposite lane while trying to avoid a lorry that had stopped by the road to enter a junction.
“As a result, the motorcyclist rammed into a van, driven by a 40-year-old man, that was coming from the opposite direction,” he said, adding that the van driver was unhurt in the accident.
He advised road users to drive carefully and obey road rules to ensure everyone’s safety.
