Elephant calf dies after being hit by 4WD near Kluang

       KLUANG: An elephant calf was killed on the spot when it was hit by a four-wheel drive (4WD) at KM40, Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing on Monday (June 20) night.

       Kluang deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the calf was hit while crossing the road at 9.30pm.

       “The 50-year old driver, a local man, was unhurt," he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 21).

       DSP Abdul Razak said the passenger of the 4WD, a 53-year old local woman, suffered minor injuries on her arm and was treated at Hospital Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom here.

       He said the case was being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Transport Rules 1959 (LN 166/59) for failing to control the movement of a vehicle.

       DSP Abdul Razak advised all road users to comply with the rules and drive carefully when going through wildlife crossing areas.
