Soldiers trial battery-powered mountain bikes to give them silent approach

The Army is trialling battery-powered mountain bikes that enables soldiers to approach the enemy in silence.

As part of a more agile army, soldiers have been experimenting with operating shoulder-fired rocket launchers such as the Carl-Gustav from Stealth H-52 electric bike.

The £6,500 off-road bike can reach speeds of up to 80km/h (50mph), has a range of 60km and has been fitted with handlebar-mounted gun carriers. Most crucially, the bike can be recharged on the battlefield.

When the adversary is encountered, cyclists dismount and deploy the weapon, as was seen by Ukrainians when they used Delfast electric bikes to attack Russians.

The Stealth H-52 was demonstrated by troops last week as part of a multi-domain immersive experience showcasing military equipment and capabilities took place at Lulworth Range, Dorset, to set out how the military is becoming more agile.

The British Army previously tested the Sur-Ron Firefly electric motorcycle for parachute drops. Again, it produced less sound and heat signatures which made it desirable on the battlefield to avoid detection.
