Disbelief has been expressed that Just Stop Oil activists were allowed to film speeches AFTER they had been arrested and handcuffed for bringing parts of London to a standstill this morning (July 17).

The Metropolitan Police said it arrested more than a dozen protesters this morning after the group warned that "up to 200" members would line the capital's streets.

Videos posted following several of these arrests on Just Stop Oil's official accounts have led to criticism from already angry members of the British public.

The videos show activists with cuffed hands as officers stand by, allowing them to speak into the camera.

People have questioned why this was allowed as Met leaders condemned the morning's disruption.

One video posted to the Just Stop Oil Twitter account captured a woman as she made a short, 20-second statement to cameras while standing in handcuffs.

The woman, named Frances, 20, said she was arrested after marching for 15 minutes in the capital.

She said: "I'm under arrest for demanding the same thing the IPCC, the United Nations and the Government's own scientific advisors have been demanding, and we've just been ignored."

She added: "We've tried everything else, and now I'm in handcuffs."

Several Twitter users expressed their frustration at the video, with one user who claimed to have been arrested saying he was not given the same treatment.

They wrote: "Any time I’ve been arrested at a protest I’ve had six police officers bundling me into the back of a van."

Another added: "Another arrested and detained person allowed to hold a press conference!"

Others in the comments were much more supportive, with dozens thanking her for participating in the morning march.

An earlier video posted to the account saw another protester able to give a statement while a Met Police officer waited on the sidelines.

The video featured a man named Ben, 36, who claimed he was being arrested "unlawfully" for marching in the road to "highlight the impact of the climate crisis".

He spoke for nearly 50 seconds while branding the Government "genocidal" and asking people to join Just Stop Oil.

One commenter asked: "Why are the Police allowing them to make promotional videos if they are being treated so badly?"

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police explained that police officers were likely waiting for a van to take the activists into custody when the videos were made.
