'MH370: The Final Search' to unveil new claims

Baffled scientists are trying to identify a strange dome-shaped object found on a beach in Australia - with some people even suggesting it might be from missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

The huge metal object was swimmers visiting Green Head Beach, roughly 155 miles north of Perth in Western Australia.

State and federal officials are treating the object as hazardous, and have asked locals to avoid it while they investigate.

A statement issued by the police said: "We want to reassure the community that we are actively engaged in a collaborative effort with various State and Federal agencies to determine the object's origin and nature."

According to eyewitnesses speaking to Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the object is about 8ft wide and between said it was around 8ft wide, and between 8 and 9.8ft long.

The previous evening, locals held a beach party as they got a closer look. with one, Garth Griffiths, saying: "It was a lovely, still night, the kids were digging sand castles around it."

Mr Griffiths said he had been told about the discovery earlier that day.

He explained: "Sometime yesterday, a local lady and her partner discovered it just floating on the edge of the water and dragged it out with their four-wheel drive.

"It's a sort of semi-cylindrical object, made of light carbon fibre material like lightweight resin."

The next morning, police arrived and began guarding it.

Aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas speculated that the item may have been a fuel tank from a space rocket.

It would have had to fall into the Indian Ocean in the past 12 months, going by its condition, he suggested.

Australia's own space agency said the giant cylinder possibly detached from a "foreign space launch vehicle", pledging to refer the findings to international agencies.

Initial theories argued the cylinder may have come from MH370, which disappeared off the coast of Western Australia in 2014 while carrying 239 passengers, hours after taking off from Kuala Lumpur.

However, Mr Thomas dismissed the possibility, saying there was "no chance" going by its condition.

He added: "It's not any part of a Boeing 777 and the fact is MH370 was lost nine and a half years ago so it would show a great deal more wear and tear on the debris."
