Brexit POLL: Was Britain right or wrong to leave the European Union?

Nigel Farage on Newsnight: 'Brexit has failed'

Seven years since the Brexit referendum, support for the UK’s decision to leave the European Union is dwindling, according to a new YouGov survey.

The study of 2151 adults surveyed between July 13 and 14 showed that 57 percent think Britain was wrong to vote for Brexit, the highest proportion recorded by the pollster.

Whereas 32 percent think leaving the EU was the right decision and 11 percent don’t know.

The findings show resentment towards the UK’s withdrawal from the bloc despite Prime Minister Rishi Sunak boasting numerous Brexit benefits including cutting alcohol duties, VAT on sanitary products and working to reduce EU laws.

He added in May: “These are not small things and they come on top of all the other things. I feel pretty confident that we are delivering the benefits of Brexit from an economic perspective, the track record is very clear on that.”

The poll also found that if a second referendum on the UK’s membership was held just 31 percent would vote “Leave” compared with 55 percent choosing “Remain”.

While support for Brexit among Leave voters is still strong with 72 percent saying that they would still vote “Leave” but 18 percent say that they would now vote “Remain”.

Earlier this year former UKIP Leader Nigel Farage claimed Brexit has “failed” blaming Tory politicians for their management of the UK’s withdrawal.

He explained: “We haven't benefited from Brexit economically when we could have done. What Brexit has proved, I'm afraid, is that our politicians are about as useless as the commissioners in Brussels were. We have mismanaged this totally.”
