A MAN is facing trial accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in the sea on packed Bournemouth beach.

       The teen was playing with friends in the water when she was allegedly attacked in front of thousands of beach-goers.

       Gabriel Marinoaica, 20, has been charged with rape and four counts of sexual assault.

       He did not attend a hearing at Bournemouth Crown Court today.

       No pleas have been entered but a provisional trial date was set for March 11 next year.

       Marinoaica, who is on unconditional bail, is next due to appear at the same court on October 20.

       Police were scrambled to the beach near the Oceanarium on July 18, 2021, following reports the girl had been raped in the sea.

       She was playing with her friends at the time when she was allegedly pulled deeper into the water.

       Detective Inspector Mark Jenkins, of MCIT, said: “Dorset Police takes all reports of rape and sexual offences extremely seriously and we ensure victims are fully supported throughout the investigation.

       "In this case, extensive and lengthy enquiries, followed by a detailed submission to the Crown Prosecution Service, have led to them authorising charges in this case.

       “This matter is now the subject of court proceedings, and it would therefore be inappropriate for us to comment any further at this stage."
