A teenager has lifted the lid on drink and drug-fuelled “totally mental” public school parties that have engulfed the beach of a pretty seaside town.

The anonymous 18-year-old claims parents "don't care" about what is happening amongst the children in the gatherings in Polzeath, Cornwall.

Writing for The Times, under pseudonym Oscar Bloomsbury, the youngster from London said he'd been visiting Polzeath in the summer since he was aged 14.

He claimed he'd seen ambulances pull up to help "really wasted people" as "drug dealers from London" roam around the parties selling weed, ketamine and cocaine.

He said parents would be "horrified" to hear of the amount of drugs being taken and that "a lot more goes on" than people might realise”.

CCTV cameras and flood lights have recently been set up by beach rangers in the area to monitor the increasingly raucous parties, CornwallLive reports.

The letter-penning student admitted to not being surprised that locals are unhappy about the noise, broken glass and destruction left by fires, he said cameras and floodlights are not enough to stop the parties - which he claims are the result of an influx of private school children from all across the country.

In the opinion piece in The Times, he wrote: "I’d say there isn’t a single private school kid in the country who doesn’t know about Polzeath.

"I don’t think they have any idea about how many drugs are being taken, or that a couple of times I have seen ambulances pulling up to help really wasted people.

"I went to the beach last Tuesday and I was pretty shocked by how many people were there — probably at least 400. You could hear dealers walking through the crowd offering weed, ketamine and cocaine.

"These weren’t local people, they were older kids aged about 18 or 19 who had brought a load of drugs from London to sell. It was totally mental last Friday and Saturday."

He continued: "When I was younger, we used to sit quietly on the beach, now the scene is like one massive horde of kids with loads of banter, all shouting and showing off and getting wasted. We call them the TikTok generation. Everything is about being loud and wacky.

"They all have to be where everyone else is. A lot of them are kids who have just finished their GCSEs, or the private school kids who broke up two weeks ago.

"Most of the kids you see there will either be staying with their parents in rented houses or staying in groups in the local camp site. Afterwards they’ll go on to Boardmasters festival by Watergate Bay."

Speaking of the parents, he said: "Most of the parents don’t care. They are on holiday themselves, out to have a good time with their friends, and are quite happy to have a boozy dinner party at home and for their kids to get out of the house and let loose. It’s like a summer holiday rite of passage."
