Coronation: Prince Harry, Andrew, and York Princesses arrive
Prince Andrew and his brother King Charles are playing a “power and status game” - and the Duke’s battle with the King over his Windsor home is just one part of it, according to biographer Andrew Lownie.
Charles has allowed his brother to remain at the Royal Lodge in Windsor while his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson recovers from breast cancer.
“Andrew is digging his heels in because he argues he needs a large house - it has 30 rooms - for when his grandchildren come to stay, and it’s part of a wider power and status game with Charles,” Mr. Lownie told The Daily Beast.
He continued: “Optics don’t look good, but that won’t worry Andrew. I don’t see him ever leaving.”
The biographer also does not see a way back to the limelight for Prince Andrew after his association with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Prince Andrew was stripped of his military titles and royal patronages by his mother the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
She made the decision amid a civil suit in New York brought by Virginia Giuffre over sexual assault allegations which the Prince strongly denied.
The suit was settled for an undisclosed sum which was not an admission of guilt.
It also came after his disastous Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis.

Although media attention on Andrew’s admitted connection with Epstein may have died down, Mr. Lownie believes there is no way for the Duke to return to public life through the Firm.
He said: “He’ll be let out for family occasions, but he is by nature a hermit so he won’t be too worried.”
