Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced their charity Archewell will be backing a new cause that centres around fatherhood.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are supporting the State of the World's Fathers report by the Equimundo Center for Masculinities and Social Justice.

State of the World’s Fathers 2023 report recognises care work as the bedrock of society, and calls for continued advancements towards gender equality.

It also emphasises the need for media representation that normalises men’s caregiving roles.

The report, which was conducted across 17 countries and surveyed thousands of men and women, found that men are "increasingly involved in caregiving and would like to increase their care work at home, although deeply ingrained social norms and a lack of supportive policies and power structures discourage them from doing so".

"The Archewell Foundation is proud to have supported this report, as well as Equimundo’s continued work to promote gender equality around the globe," a statement on Meghan and Harry's official website reads.

According to the charity's website, "Equimundo is an organization working internationally to engage men and boys as allies in gender equality".

The cause is indeed close to the Duke of Sussex's heart. The dad-of-two has been vocal about the joys of fatherhood and said he "loved the chaos and learning" of being a dad.

Speaking to NBC's Hoda Kotb last year, he said: "What do I love about fatherhood? All of it. The chaos, the learning, the reminder of just every element of yourself, your soul, right?"

"When you are not a parent you can get sucked into all sort of different stuff and you can maybe sometimes forget who you are.

"And suddenly as a parent, especially now, Archie is at the age he is at, asking all the questions.

Harry continued: "Why this? Why that? Why that? And instead of just trying to move it on, I give him the most honest answer I can.

"And then it goes on and on and on until he's satisfied. And then that's it. It's done. Otherwise it ends up with - because the world is round and that it is the way life is."

The Duke added: "So it's like, I love it. I love every part of it. I've always wanted to be a dad,' he said. 'I've always wanted to have my own kids and now I have got two little people who I'm responsible for."

Meghan has long championed gender equality, with the Duchess of Sussex picking up a prestigious award in May that recognised her longstanding efforts to promote female achievement.

The Duchess took home Ms Foundation’s Women of Vision Award, which recognises women who have had a significant positive impact in their respective fields.

Meghan urged women "to be the visionary of your own life" in her impassioned acceptance speech in New York as Harry and mother Doria looked on with pride.

But Meghan has previously said that gender equality is not achievable unless men play their part.

Speaking at an event at Windsor Castle in 2019 before they stepped down from royal duties, Meghan said: "In terms of gender equality, which is something I have championed for a long time, I think that conversation can't happen without men being a part of it.

"So for this reason it made complete sense to let him (Harry) join today so thank you for letting him crash the party."
