KUWAIT CITY, July 23: The Kuwait Medical Association denounced the physical assault on a female doctor at the Jaber Al-Ahmad Clinic by a visitor who asked her for a sick leave for another person without that person visiting the clinic.

The association said it will take all legal measures within its right, saying such incidents that happen on and off cannot be tolerated and said in a press statement that 90% of the cases of attacks on doctors in health centers were due to illegal or rather fake illnesses, indicating that only 25% of the clinic visitors are patients.

The KMA called on the Civil Service Council to support the proposal of the Ministry of Health to allow the granting of sick leaves ‘electronically’, as in many developed and neighboring countries. The association explained that diseases have become a heavy burden on the doctor and the health system, emphasizing that it is an acquired right for the citizen, wondering why the citizen still gets the disease by going to the dispensary. The association stressed that granting leave “electronically” will reduce the burden on the health system in primary healthcare and stop wasting the resources of the Ministry of Health.
