Harry and Meghan warned leaving Montecito will be 'biggest security risk of their lives'

Prince Harry and Meghan have been warned they will be taking “the biggest security risk of their lives” if they move to Malibu.

A top U.S. security expert believes the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – along with their children Prince Archie, 4, and two-year-old Princess Lilibet – will become “sitting ducks” in the coastal celebrity enclave just outside LA.

Kent Moyer, boss of the Beverly Hills-based World Protection Group, said: “If they’re bothered by the paparazzi and intruders at their mansion in Montecito 90 miles away, it will be considerably worse in Malibu, where their profile will be even higher.

“Far more serious, however, is the risk of a terrorist attack or kidnap attempt on them and their family” following Harry’s shocking claim, in his book Spare, to have killed 25 Taliban insurgents while serving with the British Army in Afghanistan.

Moyer believes it would be a “grave error” for the royal couple to even announce where they intend to live, adding: “As things stand, any tourist – let alone a trained assassin – can easily find their home.”

He says their $14.65m (£11.4m) Montecito mansion “is almost a local landmark” but a property in Malibu would likely attract “ten times the attention.” Moyer adds: “It’s also disturbing that their names are right there in local public records of property ownership.

“Most high-risk VIPs form anonymous-sounding companies through which they buy homes, so they can’t be traced so easily. Harry and Meghan simply haven’t bothered with this very easy step.”

Over the past 18 months, intruders have twice managed to breach the perimeter of their fiver acre Montecito estate and their intricate alarm system has been accidentally triggered at least six times.

If they move to Malibu, says Moyer, the risks will be exacerbated by the topography of the area. “The main access road, Pacific Coast Highway, is very narrow in parts and often blocked in winter by mudslides and landslides.

That would be a nightmare if they were looking to escape an attack by car.”

Even purchasing a lavish oceanfront property is no guarantee of safety.

The Pacific-side home of actress Halle Berry was plundered by water-borne thieves who made off with jewelry, art and other possessions in 2018.

Now Moyer believes Harry and Meghan will have to “more than double” their reported annual security budget of $2million (£1.56m) to make a move to Malibu “even begin to look feasible.

“The fact is, they should be vanishing from public view completely unless they are attending a public function. Turning themselves into even higher profile targets and telling everyone where they live is not the answer.”
